Mere days after hearing how we are being paranoid about how the Supreme Court opinion on gay marriage would lead to polygamy, this story comes out.<\/p>\n

The reason for defending marriage has nothing to do with hating gays or resisting “love.” \u00a0And while having children is a big part of the marriage relationship, it is not the sole purpose. \u00a0In fact, I would note that every time the marriage bed was compromise\u00a0for the sake of having children<\/em> it invariably ends badly.<\/p>\n

Paul reminds us that we are not simply engaged in conflict with man, but that we are engaged in spiritual warfare (Eph 2:1-2<\/a>). \u00a0So look at the current state of affairs from that perspective. \u00a0Why push same sex marriage?<\/p>\n

Let me answer that with some questions of my own.<\/p>\n

What is the first ordained office that God gave man?<\/p>\n

Is marriage more than a simply social contract?<\/p>\n

Are there differences between men and women that go beyond the mere physical and into the psychology of how each thinks and addresses or approaches both joys and challenges of life?<\/p>\n

The answers are, of course, “marriage,” “yes” and “yes.”<\/p>\n

That, then, gets to the basics of the issue. \u00a0The real issue of same sex marriage is that it undermines the foundational office of order that God created<\/em>. \u00a0It takes us yet another important step further away from God and his intent in creation.<\/p>\n

Yes marriages fail among heterosexuals. \u00a0Man is a fallen creature, so we consistently fail to meet His standard. \u00a0That’s not a justification for abandoning His standard.<\/p>\n

You may also – and I already have – hear arguments about how there was polygamy in the Bible. \u00a0Of course, there is. \u00a0I’ll note, though that it occurs\u00a0after<\/em>\u00a0Man has fallen. \u00a0That man fails God’s intent, though, is not an excuse. \u00a0Besides, as I write this, I cannot think of a case of Old Testament polygamy that was not the cause of problems and grief. \u00a0Often it was used to the good by God, but that doesn’t change the initial wrong.<\/p>\n

Finally, I would like to note that for many of us, opposition to same sex marriage is a position of love and not hate. \u00a0Because marriage is more than a simple social contract and is built around the nuances and differences of the male and female perspectives on life, a same sex marriage will never be the equivalent of the marriage between a man and a woman. \u00a0From a theological perspective it becomes impossible to even use the word “marriage” when applied to even the most committed homosexual relationship. \u00a0They sacrifice their dignity to meanly ape what God has ordained and wrap themselves in a cloak of their own righteousness to justify it. \u00a0No amount of love or commitment can ever change that.<\/p>\n

I don’t know about you, but I love my gay friends and neighbors too much to be a part of that delusion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
