{"id":660,"date":"2015-06-26T14:40:18","date_gmt":"2015-06-26T19:40:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thechristiangeek.net\/wp\/?p=660"},"modified":"2015-06-26T14:40:18","modified_gmt":"2015-06-26T19:40:18","slug":"first-thought-on-the-same-sex-marriage-ruling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thechristiangeek.net\/wp\/?p=660","title":{"rendered":"First thought on the same sex marriage ruling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thechristiangeek.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/1434484716960.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-657\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thechristiangeek.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/1434484716960.jpg?resize=300%2C169\" alt=\"1434484716960\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thechristiangeek.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/1434484716960.jpg?resize=300%2C169 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thechristiangeek.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/1434484716960.jpg?w=876 876w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a>Time for a harsh reality check&#8230; You can change the label, but you cannot change what marriage <em><strong>is<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0Whether you believe it to be a sacrament instituted by God or evolutionary process forming a permanently mated pair in h. sapiens, gays may try to <em>copy<\/em> what marriage is; they may even maintain a long-term relationship and do so better than some heterosexual couples, but it will still be an imitation. \u00a0To change the label cannot ever change that.<\/p>\n<p>The real problem didn&#8217;t begin with same-sex marriage, but in people forgetting what marriage is even between men and women.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond this, regardless of the &#8220;out&#8221; for religious objection, Christians are\u00a0the real target of this ruling. \u00a0Regardless of the First Amendment right being protected by law, there is no protection from the\u00a0<em>cost<\/em> of the lawsuits that will be used to persecute the Church. \u00a0If there&#8217;s any doubt of this latter, Justice Roberts reminds us,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Indeed, the Solicitor General candidly acknowledged that the tax exemptions of some religious institutions would be in question if they opposed same-sex marriage.
